Software Engineer Backend - C#.Net (f/m/d)

  • North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
  • Full-Time
  • Remote

Job Description:

Our client is a Merchant of Record selling software worldwide, and at its core runs a large monolithic backend built on .NET. Your job: maintain, stabilise, and modernise it — migrating legacy .NET Framework to modern .NET, gradually extracting components into cloud services, and keeping REST and GraphQL APIs (plus an internal WPF app and Oracle SQL) reliable in production. Pragmatic technical judgment over big-bang rewrites.

THE ROLE

You own the reliability and long-term maintainability of an established, business-critical codebase. You introduce changes and new functionality without disrupting the running platform, refactor legacy for stability and sustainability, and drive real root-cause fixes over temporary patches. You balance ongoing maintenance with incremental modernisation — and improve delivery through CI/CD along the way.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Maintain and enhance a large monolithic backend in C# and .NET — change it without disrupting production.
  • Modernise legacy .NET Framework components to modern .NET, minimising regression risk.
  • Gradually extract components from the monolith into cloud-based services.
  • Design and maintain REST APIs, and implement GraphQL APIs (schema design, resolvers, safe evolution).
  • Develop and optimise Oracle SQL queries for performance and data consistency; integrate third-party APIs.
  • Maintain and support the internal Windows desktop application built with WPF.
  • Investigate production issues, run root-cause analysis, and improve delivery through CI/CD.

WHAT YOU BRING

The real must-haves:

  • Strong experience with C# and modern .NET.
  • Maintaining and evolving large legacy or monolithic systems.
  • Practical .NET Framework modern .NET migrations.
  • Designing REST APIs and implementing GraphQL APIs (schema design, resolvers, query performance).
  • Strong SQL skills, preferably with Oracle databases.
  • Maintaining Windows desktop applications using WPF.
  • Git-based workflows, collaborative code review, and CI/CD pipelines.

Nice-to-haves:

  • AWS cloud services and serverless (API Gateway, Lambda, IAM, EventBridge, SQS); IaC with Terraform / Terragrunt.
  • Legacy refactoring strategies and gradual system modernisation.
  • Better observability (logging, monitoring) and application/database performance tuning in production.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

  • Real ownership of a business-critical platform — pragmatic modernisation, not a doomed big-bang rewrite.
  • Work hybrid or fully remote — with flexible hours.
  • A personal L&D budget and structured development programs.
  • Health & well-being benefits, pension/retirement plans, referral bonuses, and more.
  • A 200+ person, 30+ nationality team where people tend to stay.
